He joined the junior high band, learning to play the trumpet. During high school, he learned the tuba and being a preparatory music major, Jim also learned woodwinds, saxophone and keyboards. He played in the high school marching band and took up string bass in the jazz band. He went on to play in the University of Missouri-Rolla Jazz Band. Bass guitar is now his instrument of choice.
Jim joined up with his first band in the 9th grade. They called themselves "PAX" (pronounced "POX"). They even played a couple gigs, one at a neighboring rural Jr. High School. In high school Jim moved on to some different bands, playing at hippie weddings and some high school dances.
By the time Jim graduated from high school, he was playing the bar circuit, both locally and in neighboring communities. The bar thing went on for a number of years. Some of his bar gigs were six nights a week. Jim was in bands such as "Crush", "Studebaker Hawk", "Bob Reuter & the Homeboys", "Fanatics", "Wingshot", and *Mason Dixon". There were many individual significant events during the years from then to now, such as opening shows for locally popular groups and even a famous group or two at some nice venues. Ever heard of The Rainmakers, The Elvis Brothers? Well maybe not, but what about Foghat?

Jim played music with a lot of people over the years and, there were people that he got back together with several times. From all of them, he learned. There were also times that Jim didn't play at all, but those times weren't long. Jim has played a variety of music, from classical to jazz to rock & roll to punk to country, and now, the blues.
And then, there is Pseudo Blues. Four guys. Two guys that played together off and on for nearly 20 years and two guys that were friends. Eventually, they got together, they were all dating the same girl. The four of them as a group didn't really know the others very well, but it worked. Then one of the guys moved away, and one had a calling to the other side of the sound board. Jim and Merle found Don. And here they are, "The Pseudo Blues Band". The rest, is yet to be written . . .
